Graduate Assistantships

Before being awarded a graduate assistantship, you must be accepted by the APSU College of Graduate Studies.  If you are applying for an assistantship in the department of communication, you also must be accepted into the corporate communication program.

Stipend, Scholarship and Workload

Graduate assistants receive an annual stipend of $5,184 and a scholarship covering tuition and fees.  The scholarship is valued at $6,626 per year.  Graduate assistants work 20 hours per week on the APSU campus during the fall and spring terms.

Assignments

In the department of communication, a graduate faculty member typically supervises graduate assistants.  Assignments may include

  • Teaching a basic undergraduate course
  • Overseeing a research laboratory
  • Assisting with radio station or cable television channel management

Outside Employment

Graduate assistants are not permitted to hold other part- or full-time employment that could interfere with campus work assignments or academic scholarship, unless approved by the college of graduate studies dean.  Assistants in the department of communication also must have the approval of the corporate communication graduate coordinator.
